Ipswich Museum’s new gallery needed to be not only bright, fun and child friendly, but informative for an adult audience too. Ugly were commissioned to create interactives, graphic displays and an illustration style that would engage a wide range of people.
Idea
Ugly saw 'learning through doing' to be at the very centre of the new gallery. We designed a series of hands-on interactives and large scale murals, using illustration as the main medium for telling the stories - text was kept to a minimum. A strong visual style would create a gallery ambience that was colourful, friendly, informative and alive.
Result
We delivered a range of illustrated panels, graphics, interactives, murals and a life size replica Mummy! The new gallery has proven to be very popular. Upon opening, school visits rose by an immense 33%!
