St Mary's is a rural church that has been at the heart of family life for generations. The village name, Saxon for 'Hall of the King', hints at royal patronage and there was a significant royal palace nearby until 1603. The Parochial Church Council (PCC) approached Ugly Studios to design interpretation for the development stage of their Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) Places of Worship bid.
After initial research we proposed target audiences and designed interpretation that delivered the PCC's aims and learning objectives for those audiences. We created concepts to RIBA stage 4 equivalent with a budget and schedule for the delivery stage. The resulting documents formed part of the stage 2 HLF bid.
The plan was submitted to HLF and the PCC were successful in receiving their grant. The project is now moving forward into the delivery stage.
