The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell underwent complete refurbishment, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. Ugly Studios were commissioned to design the new exhibition galleries, in partnership with Norfolk Museums Service's display and curatorial staff.
Idea
Working closely with the curators, we developed concepts across all eleven galleries, creating a cohesive vision for the entire Museum. The visitor journey and exhibition layouts were then created for each gallery, considering essential factors such as experiences and learning outcomes, as well as opportunities for interactive, tactile and audio-visual activities.
Result
The Museum of Norwich at the Bridewell’s re-opening in 2012 was a great success. Visitor targets of 15,000 were smashed within 9 months. Both local and national press have regularly been admiring of its design.
