Brief

Deep History Coast is a landscape-wide, economic and cultural initiative lead by North Norfolk District Council. Ugly Studios were appointed, after a competitive tender process, to design and deliver the new Deep History Coast Visitor and Tourist Information Centre in Cromer.

Idea

'Deep time' is considered to be a tricky concept. The challenge was to explain these technical ideas to a family audience in an exciting and dramatic way. We imagined the new centre as a 'jumping off point' centred around a large AV introduction complemented by family-friendly, interactive displays, retail units and leaflet holders. The whole scheme is designed as a call-to-action to 'go out and explore'.

Result

The result is a bright, fun and dynamic new tourist information centre, retail space and exhibition telling the story of north Norfolk's Deep History Coast. Since the visitor centre opened its doors it has proved popular with tourists and local visitors of all ages.
