When a big rise in visitor numbers at Sutton Hoo, the site of the world famous Anglo-Saxon ship burial, prompted National Trust to re-display their high quality replicas, they commissioned Ugly to create a sustainable, atmospheric and dramatic permanent exhibition.
Idea
An unobtrusive, clean design enables visitors to closely study and marvel at the wonderful craftsmanship of these objects. Minimal interpretation inside the cases compliments two digital screens that show how the objects were re-created and originally worn.
Result
Since the opening, visitor numbers have continued to increase, the Treasury being a popular part of the experience has received an extremely positive response from both National Trust and the public.
