Northampton Museum and Art Gallery has been a fixture in the town for 150 years. In 2021 the building reopened after a major refurbishment. Ugly Studios were appointed to design a new, temporary exhibition about Northampton and its people in one of the new-look galleries.
Idea
This was an exhibition with a lot of large objects, which we arranged in two groups to make the most of the space. Maps of the town were made into physical interactives and there was a large, fun, multi-player, digital quiz. The graphic design style was bright and colourful and zoned the displays into three clear themes.
Result
We installed the exhibition in and around covid lockdowns and it opened in July 2021. Visitor quotes from Social Media: “The museum, it’s amazing and I loved the Northampton exhibit. Lovely that the heritage of the town is being celebrated”, “Well worth the wait. Love the local to Northampton room…”

They were fun to work with, always listening to our wishes and working with us to create the best design solutions.
They were punctual with all work and very accommodating to changes in programme caused by delays in building work and Covid 19.
