Brief

Working with our partners Unusual Projects, we won a competitive tender to produce Northampton Museum’s new temporary exhibition. The brief was to design a display for 100 objects ranging in size from tiny Roman coins to a full-size Formula 1 car! We needed a solution that treated every object the same - Each object being equally important and deserving of the same wall space.

Idea

Usually, we design exhibitions with a clear hiearchy, guiding visitors along an intended path. But this time, we were designing 100 mini exhibtions, in one! Every object was equally important. Colour, and assigning a seperate colour to each object gave us the freedom to create a display where every object was distinct, with no obvious sequence or priority.

Result

The exhibition has been wonderfully received, attracting 46,085 visitors and breaking previous attendance records for a temporary exhibition at the museum. The design and graphic style received particular praise, with calls for it to become a permanent fixture. Feedback has been "overwhelmingly positive, with many organisations arranging group visits and expressing interest in future collaboration".
