Also present were ex-pilot Dr Bert Osborn DFC, who was based at Langham in 1944, and\u00a0Air Marshal Dick Garwood CB CBE DFC who cut the ceremonial ribbon which declared the Dome open to the public. The sound of aircraft engines were heard over the airfield once again as visitors were treated to a fly-by display by\u00a0a Grace Spitfire.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/6907148_orig1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1298 alignnone\" title=\"The crowds arrive for the official opening\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/6907148_orig1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/6907148_orig1.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/6907148_orig1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/BurtDick.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1302 alignnone\" title=\"Dr. Bert Osborne DFC (455 Squadron Royal Australian Air Force, Langham 1944) &amp; Air Marshal Dick Garwood CB CBE DFC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/BurtDick.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"479\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/BurtDick.jpg 620w, https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/BurtDick-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new attraction tells of RAF Langham&#8217;s role in the defence of the country in both World War 2 and the Cold War, bringing to life the stories of the brave men and women\u00a0from all over the globe who served there.\u00a0These individuals\u00a0were at the forefront of both attack and defence during the war, some of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.\u00a0Patrick Allen, Chairman of the Friends of Langham Dome (FoLD), says \u2018The dome will be a fitting memorial to those who served in it.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Films, interactive games, a full pilot&#8217;s flying uniform, Morse key and an original WW2 radio will immerse the whole family in the incredible story of Langham Dome. Visitors can even follow in the footsteps of the trainees by testing their aim with an interactive training gun and one of the Dome&#8217;s original training films.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0802.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1303 alignnone\" title=\"The Dome's interactive training gun and a case telling the story of local pilot, Jeff Rounce\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0802.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0802.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.uglystudios.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/IMG_0802-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Langham Dome was built in 1942-43 on the edge of RAF Langham and utilised ground-breaking technology to train anti-aircraft gunners. Moving images were projected onto the inside of the Dome to teach trainees how to improve their accuracy and level of success when shooting at enemy aircraft.\u00a0In 2013, owners <a href=\"http:\/\/www.norfolkhistoricbuildingstrust.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">North Norfolk Historic Buildings Trust <\/a>(NNHBT), in conjunction with the FoLD, won major funding from\u00a0the Heritage Lottery Fund, as well as English Heritage and other contributors, to restore and transform the Dome.<\/p>\n<p>The Dome will be managed by FoLD on behalf on the NNHBT, and spearheaded by the Dome&#8217;s Development Manager, <a href=\"https:\/\/langhamdome.org\/flying-start-to-2014-for-the-dome\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kate Faire.<\/a>\u00a0Staffed by volunteers, the centre is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays, 11am \u2013 4pm.
