Sailors’ Path Sets Sail

The 4th December saw the official re-opening of one of Suffolk’s most beautiful walking routes, The Sailors’ Path.

As part of the EU part funded project BALANCE, Ugly have been working on updating all of the interpretation boards across the Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Sailors’ Path is the first stage of this update to be completed.

We won a competitive tender for the project in November 2011 and since then, we have worked closely with the AONB management team and other stakeholders to create an interpretation plan, and then undertake interpretive research, writing, graphic design, illustration and panel frame design and manufacture.

The project timescale for production and final delivery of all 55 boards continues until late 2013. We’re looking forward to continuing our working relationship with the AONB management team and other stakeholders, who have been working extremely hard behind the scenes on the BALANCE project.

A double page article all about The Sailors’ Path launch can be found here. We were especially proud to read the following write up about our part of the project: ‘The interpretation panels, produced by Ugly Studios, are the best to be seen anywhere on the Suffolk coast, and probably far beyond…’

Look out for further updates on the project over the coming year!
