Everyone, meet Ben!
Ben has been interning with us for the past fortnight, helping on some of our projects and hopefully enjoying himself at the same time! We’ll let Ben explain more about himself and his work:
“Hi, I’m Ben. I’m a student – I study ‘Computer Visualisation and Animation’ at Bournemouth University. Quite a mouthful! It’s a course whose graduates typically work in the visual effects/animation industries. I decided I wanted to experience something a little different, and come to work at Ugly Studios for a couple of weeks, to see how they put their projects together and to get a handle on the way they code their interactive displays.
While interning here, I worked on a project for a large waste management company. I was responsible for prototyping a waste-sorting game, and structuring a lifestyle quiz to assess how environmentally-friendly the user is. The work was fairly similar to some things I’ve worked on at uni, but still involved lots of things I’d never done before; the game uses a simple 2d physics engine that I coded from scratch, for example.
The studio has a great atmosphere, we share the space with a couple of other companies, so it’s always lively. Everyone here is really friendly, I think I’ve drunk more tea in the last five days that the last five years!”

Unfortunately, Ben is leaving us to return back to university, but we’re always on the lookout for new talent. If you’re interested in interning with us (and why wouldn’t you be?), please get in touch via 01603 760529, or by emailing info@uglystudios.com
