Merry Christmas from Ugly Studios!
We’ve had a fantastic year here at Ugly Studios, thanks to our clients, associates and friends! We’d like to share with you some of our top moments of 2015.
1) A new arrival!
Alicia joined us in January as Projects Assistant, supporting on a range of projects right from the get-go.
2) Langham Dome Films on BBC1
Our specially-commissioned films for the HLF-funded visitor centre Langham Dome, narrated by Stephen Fry, were re-edited into a documentary on BBC1. Our films reflect the Dome’s original purpose, as a WW2 anti-aircraft gunner training site, using cutting-edge audiovisual technology to simulate the battlefield.
3) Interpretive tech installed at Cley Marshes
We developed a full suite of digital and audiovisual equipment, to open to the public along with the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s brand new Simon Aspinall Centre at Cley Marshes. The kit looks and feels amazing, and allows the NWT’s visitors to engage with the landscape and each other in a completely new way.
4) Wells Maltings wins HLF support
The Wells Maltings Trust (with a bit of help from us) were successful in securing nearly £2m in Heritage Lottery Fund grants. We were proud to be their interpretive team and concept designers, and we’re thrilled that such a great project will be going ahead!
5) Success at the AHI Conference 2015
We were delighted to be awarded Runner-Up, with a Judges Special Mention, for our work on Langham Dome. Ugly’s Simon and Kathryn represented the team at the Awards, with an unforgettable speech (including RAF hats!), and Simon also presented the Digital Heritage workshop as part of the Conference.
Well, that’s it for 2015! Still, we’re excited about 2016 – we have a whole new range of exciting projects in store! Early January will see our interpretive units installed at the North Hykeham Energy from Waste facility, Lincolnshire. We also have upcoming projects with 4(!) National Trust properties: Sutton Hoo, Dunwich Heath, Sheringham Park and Orford Ness.
We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and all the best for the New Year!
